Position Overview:
Seeking a qualified law student or legal professional for document research and retrieval at LA County archives for a civil case. This position requires on-site archive work, as the case materials are not available online.
Key Responsibilities:
Travel to LA County archives/courthouse facilities
Conduct thorough case file research using archive computer systems
Locate, review, and analyze civil court documents
Request and obtain certified copies of relevant materials
Provide detailed summaries of findings
Maintain organized documentation of research process
Required Qualifications:
Current law student (2L or 3L preferred) OR paralegal certification OR legal experience
Strong understanding of civil procedure and family law fundamentals
Knowledge of property division and divorce proceedings in California
Experience with legal document identification and analysis
Proficiency with courthouse/archive computer systems
Reliable transportation for travel to archive locations
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Compensation Structure:
Hourly Rate: $25-40/hour (based on experience and qualifications)
Travel Reimbursement: $0.65 per mile (IRS standard rate)
Additional: Parking fees and copying costs covered
Estimated Time Commitment: 10-20 hours over 2-3 weeks
