General practice law firm seeks an independent contractor attorney for a part-time position. Applicants with a general to advanced knowledge of Family Law are preferred, as well as those applicants who have substantial knowledge in one or two other general areas of law (Employment Law, Personal Injury, Immigration, Securities Law, Intellectual Property, Cyber Law, Landlord/Tenant, Worker's Comp, Estate Planning/Probate, Non-Profit Law, General Civil, etc.). Please do not apply if you do not have significant experience in Family Law (i.e., handling Family Law cases from start to finish including Family Law litigation (Divorces, RFOs, Custody/Support hearings, etc.)).
Tasks will include, but are not limited to: client intake including talking to clients on a regular basis (primarily over the phone, but also via email and sometimes in person) as well as handling cases from start to finish once cases are assigned to you. We foster a team environment at the firm, and thus, you will have an assistant assigned to you in order to help move your cases along, as well as any other necessary support available including having other attorneys assist you on your case assignments if needed.
You must be very personable, reliable, know how to manage your time and know how to work independently. Attorneys that have been with us for years are very successful because they manage their time well and are able to function independently, efficiently and able to handles cases from beginning to end.
The goal of this position is for you to enjoy your work and to be able to communicate effectively with clients so as to address their legal needs. If you're not personable, not reliable, cannot manage your time efficiently, cannot work independently, do not enjoy the practice of law, can't work on cases from start to finish, and/or if you're afraid of (or don't like) talking to clients, then this position is not for you. Expectation is roughly 10-20 hours a week or more depending on your availability and how many cases you'd like to work on. More work hours are available depending on the areas of law that you handle. If you don't have around 10-20 hours a week or so available, please do not apply. The more areas of law you handle, the greater the possibility of more work for you.
