Summer Studio (https://www.summerstudiodesign.com) is a design-driven furniture workshop focused on handcrafted, high-end wood furniture and lighting. Every piece is built in small batches in our Los Angeles workshop, combining traditional joinery, modern tooling, and a deep respect for material honesty.
We are looking for a skilled woodworker to join our team and build production furniture, prototypes, and special commissions in close collaboration with the lead designer.
Responsibilities
• Mill, glue-up, and prepare hardwood components (white oak, walnut, ash)
• Execute precise joinery using a mix of hand tools, machines, and CNC-assisted processes
• Assemble, sand, and finish pieces to a refined, gallery-level standard
• Participate in prototyping and design iteration (problem solving, jigs, process improvements)
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop
• Support packaging and shipping as needed
Requirements
• Experience in fine woodworking or furniture making (professional or equivalent portfolio)
• Ability to read technical drawings, measurements, and shop drawings
• Attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced studio environment
• Strong communication and a collaborative mindset
Nice to have (not required)
• CNC experience (3-axis)
• Experience with oil finishes, solid wood shaping, bent lamination, or leather work
• Ability to contribute ideas on process efficiency and product improvements
Who you are
• You care about craft and precision as much as we do
• You value calm focus, detail, slowness where needed, and efficiency where possible
• You enjoy working closely with designers and making things that matter
Compensation
• Competitive hourly or salary based on experience
• Paid time off and paid holidays
• Growth opportunity as the studio expands
