Starting in mid-September, I will have a room to rent in my 2-bedroom townhouse near the intersection of Lake Ave. and California Blvd. in Pasadena. The room is not large, but it is light and airy, with hardwood floor, high ceiling, and a view of greenery. It has its own bathroom and small walk-in closet and is furnished with a double mattress on a futon frame and some small bookcases.
At the time of writing, the room is also furnished with a desk, office chair, large monitor, TV stand, and flat-screen TV, which you would be welcome to use while they are there. These items belong to a previous housemate who left them when he returned to his home town in India for a visit. He has since accepted the offer of a postdoc position in Tennessee, but he cannot return to the US and move his belongings out of my house until he is issued a new visa. ***Consequently, there is no room for you to bring furniture and no room in the garage for your car.***
The kitchen is fairly well stocked with cookware and tableware that you would be welcome to use. There is not much room for you to bring your own. Shelf and freezer space are limited, but you would have the use of half of a full-sized refrigerator.
I'm a middle-aged woman; I live quietly and keep my house clean. I am looking for a considerate, calm, reliable, responsible, non-smoking, non-partying housemate, preferably female, who will adore my cat, leave the kitchen as clean as she finds it (dishes, counter, stovetop, floor, sink, microwave...), and join me in the occasional cup of tea at the end of a day. One person only, please. Extra points if you are a vegetarian/pescetarian, or play classical music (I could use an incentive to start playing piano again), or speak Hebrew or Hindi and have great patience. Ideally, you will be looking to stay for between six months and a year.
I am asking $850/month plus a charge for utilities if I see a big difference in my bills after you move in. ***Disclosure: I prefer to make do with space heaters and fans rather than central heating/cooling.*** I also ask for a security deposit equal to one month's rent.
If you are interested, please put enough personality in your e-mail for me to get a feel for whether we would be compatible housemates. I look forward to hearing from you.
