LARGE 70's Vintage Eddie Powell aka TaoGaea POP Art Lion Painting - $200 (Westwood)

Hey... what's up Taurus? This is a stunning vintage POP art painting on canvas by Eddie Powell, aka "TaoGaea." This painting depicting a lion is much different from his typical black and white works. Signed, "TaoGaea2," on the front, it also includes TaoGaea labels on the back side of the frame.

Dimensions with frame = 54 & 3/4" tall x 24 & 1/2" wide

This work could use a light cleaning. It also sports two small holes (See Photoshopped red circles.) that need to be mended. the upper hole looks like it was made with an ice pick, and the lower hole is the size of your pinky's fingernail.

Eddie Powell (aka TaoGaea) was a successful master of fine art, with works spanning the 1960’s through 2003. To meet the rising demand of his high-contrast works in the 1970’s, Powell hired a team of fourteen artists who reproduced his works by hand, with the final strokes provided by Powell himself. These works were usually noted with the signature “TaoGaea2.” He finally began signing his own name to his works in the 1990’s...

Powell and his wife taught school to make ends meet, and to support his inspiration, his two children, who are named Tao (Chinese meaning Universal Truth) and Gaea (Mother Earth of Greek Mythology). In the early days, Powell would pack up his family in his Volkswagen Bus on the weekends and travel to West Hollywood to sell his early paintings in a quaint parking lot on La Cienega Blvd. and Melrose Avenue. His work caught the eye of patrons of the entertainment industry, and ushered Powell toward a successful career as a fine artist.

Some of Powell’s most notable clients include: (a lot of famous people who I am not inclkuding here since I think it is the reason that my ad keeps getting flagged.)
