Selling 1896 signed Russian Oil Painting from family collection depicting the landdscape which most likely is the Karelia province of Imperial Russia. This oil painting size 105 x 69 cm (42x27 inch) does have only partial signature with the date 1896 and most likely was done by one of these three Russian artists: Ilya Repin, Ivan Shishkin or Michail Nestorov.
Due to its age and turbulent circumstances of surviving two World Wars it has been professionally restored in Europe with all the documentation.
It has inscription on the back of the stretcher frame in Russian reading : Paisage,( Landscape), Finlandia, Tefiokki. Tefiokki was then a well known artist colony in Karelia Province, less than 30 miles from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Later after 1917 it became part of newly established Finland and the final residence of Ilya Repin who didn't want to live in Soviet Russia. We still strongly believe that this painting was done by Ilya Repin, probably the most famous Russian painter and therefore this masterpiece it's very valuable.
