Native American - Indian Hand Made Tribal - Coiled Bundled Basket ~ Late 1800’s early 1900’s - Antique
This large authentic rare original American Indian woven basket, was last used as a movie prop.
I was told that this basket was once used in the movie Geronimo: An American Legend but I have no written provenance. It has a Sony pictures movie prop sticker on the bottom of the basket.
It does have a hole in it from I believe from an animals, which helps shows its age and character but the basket is very strong and stable, with tight weaving - stitching.
Perhaps it was used as a storage basket - bowl for medicinal and 0r culinary plants like white sage, acorns, winter squash, beans or blue corn? One person wrote me that this antique basket looks like it is from a tribe in New Mexico, Arizona or perhaps California
The size is 3-1/2” tall x 12-1/2" inches wide
It is a nice real antique Authentic Native American basket, that are not easy to find.
This basket maybe from Southwestern Indians Hopi or Navajo tribe as they made baskets from tightly coiled sumac or willow but it could be from Chippewa or Inuit?
