We are the Natural Language Dialogue Group at the Institute for Creative Technologies of the University of Southern California. We are conducting a research study to collect data for the development of algorithms and methods that allow automatic speech recognition from far-away microphones.
We are recruiting individuals who meet all of the following criteria:
1. Are fluent speakers of English, or fluent speakers of Mandarin Chinese with sufficient knowledge of English to understand this document and the information sheet (see link below), and interact with the research staff.
2. Have unimpaired (normal) hearing.
3. Have unimpaired (normal) vision, or vision corrected to 20/20.
4. Are over the age of 18.
If you decide to participate in this study, you will be asked to do the following activities:
1. Interact verbally in collaborative tasks with other participants. (about 60 minutes)
2. Be recorded by both close (ear-mounted or headset) and far microphones.
Participation is voluntary. The entire study will be audio-recorded (not video-recorded). If you do not wish to be audio-recorded, you cannot participate in this study.
Each participant in this study will receive a payment of $40.
The research will take place at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies, 12015 Waterfront Drive, Playa Vista, CA 90094.
