If you're looking for a true Mercedes-Benz classic that still turns heads , this 1998 SL500 (R129 chassis) is it. Timeless design, V8 power, and the iconic hardtop/convertible combo — all at an affordable price.
I've owned this SL for the last five years as my personal driver. Almost all highway miles (Palm Springs « LA commute). The car runs and drives strong, the paint is in good shape, and it has always been dependable.
The Good:
• Classic R129 body with elegant silver paint in nice condition
• Powerful 5.0L V8 - smooth and reliable
• Driven regularly, not a car that has been sitting
• Hardtop + soft top included
• Beverly Hills car, garage kept most of its life. New tires
The Honest:
• Title is salvage (hasn't affected drivability - l've put 5 years on it myself)
• Seats need to be redone (currently have covers)
• One headlight needs replacement
• Hydraulic system for the hardtop has a leak (common R129 issue)
Price:
$4,800 or best offer.
I'm realistic and know it's not perfect, but it's a solid, stylish SL500 that you can drive as-is and improve as you go.
