Do you have few friends, little contact with family members, and typically do activities alone? If yes, and between the ages of 20-60, please read on.

RESEARCH STUDY - Michael Green, PhD (UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Greater Los Angeles VA) is looking for volunteers to participate in a study called "The Determinants of Social Disconnectedness." The purpose of this research project is to gather information on the nature of social connections in people from the general community and in people with mental illness.

Who is eligible?
* If you have few friends, little contact with family members, and typically do activities alone.
* 20 - 60 years old.
* no neurological conditions (i.e. epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, history of stroke).
* no history of psychotic disorder or bipolar disorder.
* no history of a major head injury.

What do you have to do?
*An interview (3 hours): asked questions about your mental health and medical history, substance use history, etc.
*Assessments (about 6.5 hours): identify emotions and intentions presented on photos and in video vignettes of people interacting, take tests that measure your mental abilities, receive standard measures of brain activity (EEG), a blood draw, and, for a subset of participants, social and emotion perception tasks while in the fMRI scanner.
