Adult Basset Hounds – Looking for Great Indoor Homes
I’m looking to place my adult Basset Hounds into loving, permanent indoor homes. I’m not in a rush and will be picky — the right home matters.
These dogs are meant to be family companions first, not outdoor dogs or dogs kept only for breeding.
A few important things to know:
• Separate rehoming fee for each dog
• Experience with Basset Hounds is a big plus (or please do your research!)
• They are very vocal, shed year-round, 40lbs+, and are not swimmers
• Both are good with children, but supervision is always recommended
• They have a prey drive, so please be cautious around small pets
About the girl:
• Needs regular grooming and ear care to keep yeast under control
• If breeding is ever considered, she would need vet-assisted AI
• She should not be kept solely for breeding — she needs a home that sees her as a companion first
About the boy:
• Does well with other dogs
• Can be iffy with other males, especially when females are in heat
• Needs someone comfortable managing intact dogs
I’m looking for people who truly understand the breed and want them inside as part of the family.
If you’re interested, please tell me a bit about:
• Your experience with dogs/Bassets
• Your living situation (indoor setup, yard, other pets, kids, etc.)
