Here is a meade standard field tripod (NOT THE GIANT FIELD) without any screws or mounting screws/accessory. Just bare bones. it folds, it extends, I would say it works just fine. It was about 18 pounds when I weighed it.

some cosmetics defects shown on last 3 slides. the bottom legs holding all 3 together will look broken/disfigured when its folded, but when it is unfolded I do not see any affect on stability.
