This is a color print based on the B&W 1760 engraving titled "Le Chirurgien Flamand" (The Flemish Surgeon). This print was "after" David Teniers II (17th century) and depicts a Flemish surgeon operating on a patient's foot, while an assistant is mixing in a medication in a mortar and pestle, and a woman holding a baby looks on. There are surgical instruments on the floor and wall, apothecary containers, bleeding bowl, an owl, a hanging fish etc., the usual items one would find in a 17th century surgeon's "office". The engraver is Jean Daulle, 1760 and the wording reads as follows: "Tire du Cabinet de Monsieur Peilhon Secretaire due Roi". This indicates the engraving belonged to the King's secretary/counselor, Louis Gabriel Peilhon (1700-1762). lower left corner "Peint par Teniers" and right corner "Grave par J. Daulle, graver de roi", i.e., Daulle was the official engraver for the King. The framed print is in excellent condition and measure 28.5 inches wide, 24 inches high. Cash only
