A Lithograph by John Ward McClellan. African-American Woman. This exquisite example is from a limited edition of 75 and must be from one of the early impressions since it is so crisp and clean. I believe it is museum quality. It is dated 1952 and signed in pencil on the lower right side below the image. McClellan (New York, 1908-1986) is considered to be "One of America's greatest lithographic artist of the twentieth century." His art work was regularly included in major exhibitions throughout the United States. His work is part of the permanent collections in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, The National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian, and many other museums and private collections. The McClellan that I have for sale is in excellent condition. The framing is very nice and it has an archival, bevel cut rag board mat and UV plexiglass protection. The measurements are 24 1/2"H x 17 1/8"W (Frame) and 17"H x 10 1/2"W (Image). The subject is the image of woman's head and appears to be African-American. In the 1930's, McClellan was known to have had working trips throughout France, Spain, and Mexico. The price on this really nicely framed litho is only $495. This is a bargain as the framing cost on this almost exceeds the price of the original art. The sharp detail that I describe in this ad is not really visible but I'd be happy to send you a high resolution text or email of the image if you are interested. You can also click directly on the image on my Craigslist and it will enlarge the image for a better view. Please call Ken at show contact info
