Carl Reichert, an Austrian microscope manufacturer, established the C. Reichert Optical Company in Vienna in 1876. The company was known for its high-quality microscopes and became a significant European manufacturer. Reichert's microscopes were even sold at the Paris Great Exhibition in 1878, where he received a Gold Medallion. The company experienced significant growth, producing their 100,000th microscope by 1930. Reichert's history includes several ownership changes, including acquisitions by American Optical, Warner Lambert, and Cambridge Instruments. The Reichert brand eventually merged with Jung to become Reichert-Jung, and later became part of Leica Microsystems. While Reichert no longer produces microscopes, the brand continues to be associated with precision instruments and sample preparation equipment for electron microscopy.
