I purchased this bike about 2 years ago and took it to a KTM specialist who went over everything and thought besides typical things for age and miles the bike was in great shape. With a leak down test it was at 28% so the top end was close to needing work.
The main issue was the bike didn’t like starting when cold but when it was warmed up it started up perfectly. I was told starting issue was probably due to the top end.
The other issue was when the engine was running I couldn’t get the bike into neutral.
I had the clutch serviced and the rubbers were worn so replaced and it worked great. Clutch basket was still perfect. Had that done and that was all solved and now working perfectly.
There were some electrical issues so I had everything fixed. The front suspension was leaking so I replaced the seals and had a full service on them.
I addressed the top end next, the valves were still in great shape so had them adjusted.
I replaced the piston, rings and gaskets along with honing the cylinder.
I was pretty certain that was the end of the repair road and everything was looking good when the mechanic (who was redoing the top end at that time) said he could hear some knocking and thought it was the chain tensioner. I had him replace the tensioner but the knocking remained. Now the bike was being difficult again to start so we replaced a bunch of things on the fuel system. Now I’m still having issues starting the bike!!
At this point I am $8000 into a bike worth $4500 and I’ve had enough!!
I’m selling my 2 bikes and getting one newer KTM.
When the bike was running it ran great. I would have gladly kept it but I have just reached a point I’m not putting any more time, effort or money into it.
My lose, your gain but if you fix it for $20 please don’t reach out and let me know!!
